January 26, 2007, Newsletter Issue #22: How To Check For Tire Damage

Tip of the Week

Tires wear out in different ways, and often the patterns are a good indicator that it's time for automobile tire service. If the wheel balance is off, there is a noticeable dipping pattern on the front tires. If both edges of your tires are worn, it can be a sign of underinflated tires. Overinflated tires wear, too; that pattern will show up as a worn-out stripe in the center of the tire. Bad alignment shows up as an uneven wear pattern, which looks like the teeth of a saw. If you are seeing these patterns or others, it's time for a trip to your local tire Dealer for maintenance.

When doing a routine check of your automobile tire for everyday wear, you may see knots, bulges, punctures, cuts, or cracks. These visible damages call for tire removal and inspection.
